Description
Summary:Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is the most common non-communicable diseases in the world which has affected more than 3 million people in Iran. Since ancient time, herbs were used in the treatment of diabetes. Hence, this study intends to investigate the effect of Hydro Alcoholic Extract of Commiphora Mukul on cardiac enzymes, lipid profile and blood glucose in diabetic male rats. Methods: In this study, 32 male Wistar rats were randomly divided into five groups: control, diabetic, diabetic treated with 300mg/kg of Hydro Alcoholic Extract of Commiphora Mukul and healthy treated with 300mg/kg of Hydro Alcoholic Extract of Commiphora Mukul. Diabetes was induced by streptozotocin(STZ) being injected intraperitoneally)I.P). After 3 months of treatment, Blood Glucose, LDH، CPK، ALP، LDL, HDL, cholesterol and triglyceride were measured and the data were analyzed by One-way ANOVA. Results: The study results demonstrated that in the treated groups with Commiphora Mukul, blood glucose and serum levels of ALP, CPK ,LDH, and LDL significantly increased. Furthermore, in the treated groups, HDL and cholesterol levels significantly reduced as compared to the diabetic control group (p<0.05), tough the effect of the extract on blood triglyceride levels was not significant. Conclusion: The study findings revealed that it seems that Comiphora Mukul extracts produced no effect on diabetes and in some cases had a negative effect too.
