This article shows how coastal quality policies can support the effective implementation of Integrated Coastal Zone Management. It is based upon the experimentation that is currently operated by the Marennes Oléron District in Oléron Island through the implementation of the Action Plan “Oléron Coastal Quality” (OCQ). The author emphasizes three main aspects: the elaboration and implementation of the territorial project and associated action plan; the major role of the integration of science and management in ICZM; the requirements and difficulties of ICZM implementation.
