He was an important Russian jurist, whose work was influential on leftist intellectuals due to its seriousness and to the theoretical depth with which he treated this subject from a Marxist perspective. After being forced to publicly renounce to this positions, he was assassinated by order of Stalin, and both he and his work were forgotten, but he has now gained new visibility due to the publication of several studies about him and other Russian authors. Importante jurista russo, sua obra foi amplamente debatida nos primeiros anos da Revolução Russa de 1917 e exerceu grande influência entre intelectuais de esquerda, pela seriedade e profundidade teórica do tratamento do tema numa perspectiva marxista. Assassinado por Stalin, após ter sido obrigado a realizar “autocríticas”, o autor e sua obra caíram no esquecimento, mas ganharam atualmente nova visibilidade em função da publicação de vários estudos acerca dele e outros autores russos.
