The subject to the investigation is the comprehension of legal terms by the hearing impaired and the interpretation of the terms by the sign language interpreters. The authors are aimed at conducting a comparative analysis of authentic legal textual data gained by rendering the data (texts and constructions) into the sign language on the lexical and syntactic levels. Data and methodology. the data of the investigation conducted is the works of deaf specialists on the issues of the sign language teaching both deaf children and those hearing people being interested in the sign language. Sociological, statistic, documentary, lexicological analysis (of separate lexemes and lexical structures), theoretical analysis of the data methods were applied during the investigations, which let us draw the main conclusions. Results. the article provides an analysis of professional legal terminology translation peculiarities into the Russian sign language; provides instances of word-to-word translations and the sigh language translator’s interpretations which are supposed to simplify the comprehension of this or that term, or a whole phrase by the hearing impaired. The authors draw further means to the improvement of the interpretation activities. Discussion and conclusion. the authors suppose that in response to the diversified discussion of the problem of rendering legal terminology into the Russian sign language, elaborating criteria or translation schemes, legal glossaries will be compiled to assist professional activities of the sign language interpreters.http://journal-s.org/index.php/mrsp/article/view/13003жестовый языкржясурдокоммуникациялексикаглухиеперевод
