Summary:The contested issues of enlargement and democratisation of an expanding European Union are the subjects of this book, with particular focus on the role of communication and media technologies (mediatisation). Starting with the introduction of key theoretical approaches of media and democracy, the book offers an extensive overview of contemporary empirical enquiry conducted by doctoral researchers in the fields of mediatisation of governance, participation and policy-making.
