Direct conversion of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone of palmitaldehyde to its dimethyl acetal

A simple procedure is described for the direct conversion of the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone of palmitaldehyde to the corresponding dimethyl acetal, using BF3-methanol reagent or 10% methanolic HCl in the presence of a keto compound.
