Summary:The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of Duvalia corderoyi (D. corderoyi) extracts in oxidative stress status and histopathology of liver and kidney tissues in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Fifty male Wistar albino rats were injected intraperitoneally (IP) with STZ. Rats with fasting blood glucose levels of 250 mg/dl and above were considered diabetic. Rats were subsequently fed orally with D. corderoyi extracts (100,200 mg/kg bw) for 30 days. Fasting blood glucose, insulin, and oxidative status in liver and kidney tissues were measured and histopathological analysis was performed. The blood glucose and malondialdehyde levels were decreased and the insulin, glutathione reductase, glutathione peroxidase, catalase, and superoxide dismutase levels were increased in D. corderoyi treated diabetic rats in comparison to those in untreated diabetic rats. Moreover, D. corderoyi relieved the injury in liver and kidney tissues of treated diabetic rats. Administration of D. corderoyi led to significant ameliorative effects on the oxidative stress and histopathology of liver and kidney tissues of D. corderoyi treated diabetic rats.
