Education in bioethics as a critical wager in trans-humanist scenarios

This article motivates those involved in ethics committees to apply an analysis with a bioethical focus to research requiring assurance. The reflection that fosters critical methodology proposals arises from a deliberative process; meanwhile, the ethical evaluation that emerges deals with social justice in democratic societies. A case study is presented for a drug (Vioxx) for arthritis that was promoted by Merck before being approved for use. This case allows the development the methodology for analyzing the possible ethical implications of the relationship between scientific knowledge and its technological challenges in transhumanist scenarios. The methodology enables critical and proactive thinking that constitutes a basic pedagogy for education in bioethics.
