Description
Summary:The aim of this study was to investigate the use, care and maintenance of light units in everyday clinical practice. The investigative work comprised a survey of selected practices in the city of Nis, with a questionnaire and visits to examine light units. 40 light units were examined in 27 practices according to a standardized protocol. The use and care of the light units included in the study were found to be very variable. Many of the light units (52.5%) were found to be damaged and repaired. 55% of the light units inspected were found to have varying amounts of material adherent to the light guide exit portal. Cross infection control in the study was found to be very poor. It was concluded that the maintenance of inspected light units was unsatisfactory.
