This study demonstrated the awareness of doctors regarding the current views on prophylactic salpingectomy. According to the results of the main part of the questionnaire 35 of 51 (68.6%) responded that they made bilateral salpingectomy when performing a hysterectomy without oophorectomy for benign disease: 22 of 35 (62.9%) to reduce the risk of developing cancer, 16 of 35 (45.7%) to reduce the risk of formation of hydrosalpinx, 6 of 35 (17.1%) in order to reduce the risk of pelvic pain and 5 doctors (14.3%) to reduce the risk of reoperation.
