The Problems That Affect the Development of Eskişehir’s Tourism from the Visitors’ Perspective

Eskişehir is not attracting the desired number of local or international tourists despite the fact that it has various natural, historical and cultural assets to be marketed and that it is easily accessible. Pointing out the problems of Eskişehir, a city that is wanted to be a pioneer in terms of city tourism will lead to the solutions to those problems by authorities, and to the better management of a resource that will raise tourism income. Starting from this problem, we aim to determine the problems with development of Eskişehir tourism, and provide suggestions for their solutions with this study. To that end, we applied a survey to the visitors that came to Eskişehir related to the topic. The results indicate that the most important problems that affect the development of tourism in Eskişehir are related to infrastructure, superstructure and the variation of offered products according to the visitors. Apart from these, there are problems with promotion, attitude and service quality. Also, significant differences between different demographic groups in perceiving the problems have been detected.
