Studying the treatment that Lope and his work received during that year in <em>ABC</em>, a conservative and monarchist daily newspaper from Madrid, we obtain a perfect example of a very common practice during the year under investigation: the ideological use of the playwright’s work and figure in order to associate them with certain values and thus send a message that had little or nothing to do with him.
