Description
Summary:A model for simple microstrip line-fed hexagonal patch antenna with inner circle is proposed for wideband operations. This structure would be versatile in modern wireless communications. The proposed antenna is designed on a 60 mil FR4 substrate with dielectric constant of 4.4 and loss tangent of 0.02 and it is fed by microstrip line. By modifying the antenna parameters, the proposed antenna can cover the desired operation bands for modern wireless devices. Extensive simulation is performed by WIPL-D software package using the method of moment solution and the obtained results give a wide bandwidth and a 10-dB return loss from 5 GHz to 9.15 GHz. The antenna exhibits 58% impedance bandwidth centered at 7.2 GHz. Also good radiation characteristics are observed for the proposed antenna. A sample wideband antenna is fabricated and tested. A good matching between simulation results and experimental results is observed.
