Summary:The following paper examines several examples of the representation of sociability in the Spanish press during the 18th and early 19th century, paying thereby special attention to the so-called tertulia. This research attempts to shed some light on the connections between socialization and press, inquiring at the same time - among other things - the function that the fictionalization of tertulia fulfills in contemporary press so as the meaning of sociability as a narrative pattern for the development and emergence of public opinion in Spain.
