Summary: | This article focuses on the careers of women in Hezbollah in Lebanon. What is their role in a party which has a very virile model of militantism and is imbedded in Lebanese society which itself is structured by a strong sexual distribution of social roles? What meaning does it assign to their involvement in a party when, while being effectively present within the partisan structure, at the same time they remain in law outside it? The issue is one of understanding how the dimension of gender constitutes a decisive aspect in the organisation of the party, in everyday practice, and in the rewards of militantism. |
