Description
Summary:Glyptotrox gen. n. is described. Trox mandli Balthasar, 1931, living in the east of Russia, in China, Mongolia, Korean Peninsula and in Japan, is designated as type species of this genus. Diagnosis of the genus: small to medium size species; body oblong-oval and strongly соnvех; clypeus triangular; pronotum with anterior margin widely arcuate, lateral margins gently rounded or sinuate, pronotal disc with six more or less distinct, rounded or oval concavities with limited by strongly elevated obtuse ridges; male genitalia with narrow, elongate parameres and median lobe equipped with more or less distinct, triangular or ear-like, subapical processes (Figs 5a, 6a). Currently 31  taxa (species and subspecies) inhabiting North and Central America (Cuba), the Eastern Palaearctic and Oriental Region are known. The following new combinations are established: Glyptotrox boucomonti (Paulian, 1933),  comb.  n., Glyptotrox brahminus (Pittino, 1985), comb. n., Glyptotrox cambeforti (Pittino, 1985),  comb.  n., Glyptotrox cambodjanus (Pittino, 1985),  comb.  n., Glyptotrox dhaulagiri (Paulus, 1972),  comb.  n., Glyptotrox doiinthanonensis (Masumoto, 1996),  comb.  n., Glyptotrox formosanus (Nomura, 1973), comb. n., Glyptotrox foveicollis (Harold, 1872), comb. n., Glyptotrox frontera (Vaurie, 1955), comb. n., Glyptotrox hamatus (Robinson, 1940),  comb.  n., Glyptotrox ineptus (Balthasar, 1931),  comb.  n. Two new subgenera in the genus Trox are described: Granulitrox Nikolajev,  subgen.  n. and Niditrox Nikolajev,  subgen.  n. Trox granulipennis Fairmaire, 1852 is designated as type species of the subgenus Granulitrox Nikolajev, subgen. n. Twenty two species are included in this subgenus: T. (Granulitrox) confluens Wollaston, 1864, T.  (Granulitrox) cribrum Gené, 1836, T.  (Granulitrox) cyrenaicus Pittino, 2011, T.  (Granulitrox) elkantaraensis Pittino, 2011, T. (Granulitrox) eximius Faldermann, 1835, T.  (Granulitrox) fabricii Reiche, 1853, T.  (Granulitrox) granulipennis Fairmaire, 1852, T. (Granulitrox) hispanicus Harold, 1862, T.  (Granulitrox) hispidus (Pontoppidan, 1763), T.  (Granulitrox) iranicus Petrovitz, 1980, T. (Granulitrox) klapperichi Pittino, 1983, T. (Granulitrox) leonardii Pittino, 1983, T.  (Granulitrox) litoralis Pittino, 1991, T.  (Granulitrox) martini Reitter, 1892, T.  (Granulitrox) mixtus Harold, 1872, T.  (Granulitrox) morticinii Pallas, 1781, T. (Granulitrox) niger P. Rossi, 1792, T. (Granulitrox) nodulosus Harold, 1872, T. (Granulitrox) perlatus (Goeze, 1777), T. (Granulitrox) quadrimaculatus Ballion, 1871, T. (Granulitrox) sordidatus Balthasar, 1936, T. (Granulitrox) transversus Reiche, 1856. Diagnosis of the subgenus Granulitrox Nikolajev,  subgen. n.: medium size (rarely large) species; body oblong-oval and соnvех; clypeus triangular (rounded in large species); pronotum with lateral margins gently rounded; scutellum triangular; elytra may have elevations in the form of grains the bristles may be located only at the rear boundary of the convexes on intervals between grooves of elytrae. Trox eversmannii Krynicki, 1832 as type species of the subgenus Niditrox Nikolajev, subgen. n. is designated. Ten taxa are included in the subgenus: T.  (Niditrox) aequalis Say, 1831, T. (Niditrox) affinis Robinson, 1940, T. (Niditrox) eversmannii Krynicki, 1832, T.  (Niditrox) fabricii Reiche, 1853, T.  (Niditrox) koreanus J.I.  Kim, 1991, T.  (Niditrox) niponensis Lewis, 1895, T. (Niditrox) nohirai Nakane, 1954, T. (Niditrox) perrisii Fairmaire, 1868, T. (Niditrox) scaber (Linnaeus, 1767), T. (Niditrox) zoufali Balthasar, 1931. Diagnosis of the subgenus Niditrox Nikolajev, subgen. n.: small to medium size species; body elongate; clypeus triangular; lateral margins of pronotum broadly rounded; male genitalia with narrow, elongate parameres outstanding over the apex of median lobe (Figs 3, 4). It is expected that molecular-genetic analyses will be more useful than classical morphology for division of sibling species complex similar to T.  (Niditrox) scaber (Linnaeus, 1767).
