Description
Summary:EAF-slag have adequate technical properties for its use as aggregates. The MgO content is the main responsable of the expansions. The expansion produced affect in different way the new material depending of the rigidity of the matrices formed. EAF-slag shows hidraulicity and forms as reaction products CSH, calcium aluminiunsilicates and amorphous phases that can increase the strength of concretes containing slags. The Le Chatelier , autoclave expansion and volume expansion tests can not be used in detecting the potential expansion of slag when used as aggregate in rigid matrix (concrete). Two new methods of measuring the potential expansion of EAF-slag are proposed.
