Summary:The article analyzes the researches concerning the possibilities of the activity approach to teaching history, that allows formation of branch competencies. It is presented an analysis of the possibilities to form value orientation of adolescent's personality while studying history. Covered attempts to combine approaches to learning in the value-activity approach, carried out studies on determining the formedness students’ operational and value-semantic component. Stressed the relevance of the activity approach to learning. Studies have shown that the implementation of the activity approach is effective under certain conditions. Outlined directions for improving the content, organization and methods of teaching the history lessons and the humanities subjects.
