The twelve systems were put together through a stratification of producers, considering their daily milk production and developed activities. An open-ended questionnaire was employed to gather information about 81 randomly selected properties. For the sustainability analysis, social, political, ethical, cultural, environmental, technological, economical and spatial dimensions were considered, each through their own conditional relative values (L = low; M = medium; and H = high). The obtained results display a medium sustainability level on social, political, ethical, environmental, technological and economical dimensions. Spatial dimension showed a high to medium performance, while only the cultural dimension displayed low to medium results. At last, it follows that the reported activity is having a strategic role in the properties’ revenue development, as well as on social reproduction, offering the families job opportunities and life quality through the proprieties’ cash flow enhancement.http://r1.ufrrj.br/cpda/ideas/revistas/v06/n01/05-IDeAS-v06_n01-Artigo_Odimar_Ozelame-Joao_Armando_Dessimon.pdfSustainable developmentFamiliar agricultureSustainability
