| Summary: | This paper is an attempt to outline the state of security of the Szczecin Metropolitan Area (the only metropolitan area in the Republic of Poland that is located directly on the line of the national border) in the time of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic. The author - being guided by an interdisciplinary imperative - analysed a number of differentiated areas affecting or characterizing broadly perceived security both in a qualitative (normative and planning solutions) and a quantitative dimension (i.a. number of vehicles on public roads, number of traffic incidents, selected categories of crimes, infections, deaths and coronavirus tests, fires, local threats and false alarms) which he obtained through access to public information. On the basis of the outlined trends (in comparable three-month periods in 2019 and 2020), the author established answers to the following two questions:
- did the state of epidemic in its first three months contribute to lowering the level of security of the citizens of the Szczecin Metropolitan Area?
- can the limited citizens’ activity in public space be one of the determinants affecting the state of security?
