Summary:One of the main objects of family planning is to prevent unwanted pregnancies. It is apparent that this way maternal morality and hospital works will decrease. The goal of present study was to approach the reason of unwanted pregnancies among mothers who did not use contraception. 933 mothers that delivered in Hamadan province during 1995, were selected randomly and interviewed. 42.1% of their newborns were unwanted, and 25.7% of these mothers used no way contraception method. The most frequent reasons of not using contraception are listed below: Advises of medical staff….21.8% Family desire …………….18.8% No reason ………………...15.8% Fear of complication ………7.9% It seems the improvement of the knowledge of medical staff, young couples and general population can decrease unwanted pregnancies.
