To review the use and proposed mechanisms of amniotic membrane transplantation in the ocular surgery: preparing and storage; indication for the use of amniotic membrane and description of different surgical procedures.</p><p>Methods. Significant clinical and experimental publications are reviewed and our results are presented.</p><p>Results. Amniotic membrane transplantation stimulates epithelialization and has anti-inflammatory and anticicatrical effect.</p><p>Conclusions. Good results of treatment with amniotic membrane transplantation can be seen in resolving a persistent epithelial defect of the cornea, symptomatic bullous keratopathy after cataract surgery, acute chemical and thermal burn of the ocular surface and limbal stem cell deficiency.<br /><br /></p>http://vestnik.szd.si/index.php/ZdravVest/article/view/2324amniotic membranepreparingstorageocular surface diseases
