Summary:The following article analyzes the process of transformation of Sidi Mabrouk that used to be a residential quarter. The latter becomes a new trade polarity in Constantine whose specialty is the sale of products coming from transnational trade. At the end of the 1990’s, the metamorphosis of this colonial and residential suburb has started with the emergence of constructions (houses) whose ground floors have been changed to trade spaces all along a ten years period of time. Thus, giving to the quarter a more trade characteristic than a residential one. The article highpoints the different steps of this metamorphosis, the change from the individual house (the villa) to buildings with commercial ground floors that are called nowadays in Constantine Bazars, and whose effect is felt all around the whole neighborhood. Moreover, Traders, particularly pioneers of this metamorphosis, are put forward, they highlight their establishment strategies. Last, the article’s interest deals with urban issues and the consuming practices that this new trade polarity introduces.
