Description
Summary:This article is a clipping of a master's research, which aimed at identifying scientific journal portals in the federal universities of the State of Minas Gerais and describing their characteristics. The present article discusses the content of these environments: the number of journals, areas of knowledge to which they are linked and the QUALIS evaluation of journals inserted in the portals. The research is characterized as exploratory and descriptive, with a qualitativequantitative approach, being conducted in two stages: the first consisted of a literature review, aiming to raise portal characteristics; and the second involved the identification and analysis of portals, through documentary research about the university websites and, later, portal websites. The study identified the existence of scientific journal portals in five Federal Universities: Minas Gerais, Ouro Preto, Juiz de Fora, São João del Rei and Triângulo Mineiro. Considering the content of the portals, the results indicated disparity between them, some with a small number of journals, and others with a higher number; the journals are linked to various areas of knowledge and most of them have a QUALIS evaluation. Institutions with a greater number of postgraduate programs, tend to have a proportion of journals in higher levels of the QUALIS ranking which might indicate the importance of this level of education to the quality of journals.
