Effect of Supplemental Feeding and Deworming on Economic Development of Milk Production in Gobra Cows Reared in the Sahelian Zone of Senegal. To evaluate the effect of supplemental feeding and deworming on dairy production in Gobra cattle reared in the Senegal River Delta, experimental trail was conducted from March to August 1998. A herd of 118 lactating cows was used in this study. Animals were divided into four groups. The control group (T0) was neither dewormed nor supplemented, the group T1 was dewormed (against lungworms and trematodes), T2 was supplemented [4 kg of urea-treated rice straw + 1 kg concentrate (50% of rice bran, 25% of molasses and 25% of "Jarga", commercial feed)] and the T3 was supplemented and dewormed. Dairy production and body condition score were weekly assessed. The calves were weighed every month. Body weight of the cows was estimated by weightband at the beginning and the end of the experimental trail. Significant differences (P< 0.001) were observed between the groups for dairy production, cows and calves weights, calves death rate and economical performances. Group T3 gave the best technical and economic results. In dry season, the dairy production is a considerable source of income, if however food acquisition (accessibility) and milk marketing circuits are well controlled.
