Description
Summary:The author analyzes the role of humour and its manifestations in different contexts of psychological practice. The meanings of laugh, humour, smile are considered in the context of psychiatric nosology, and cases of laughter in diagnostic practice and counselling are analyzed. The author describes the phenomena of “alcoholic humour” and ”adolescent derision”. The existing notions of ”comic depression” (Karvasarsky), ”smiling depression” and ”ironic depression” (Bleicher) are analysed in the light of the preceding discussion. The abnormal variations of smiles and laughter are also discussed, and a compensatory function of humour is suggested.
