Summary:The work consisted of a case study with collectors of recycled materials that are part of an association of collectors of Santo Antonio do Monte, located in Santo Antonio do Monte - MG . Therefore aimed to analyze the perception of the collector in relation to health, and environmental risks . As an instrument of data collection used a semistructured interview, the questions being addressed by content analysis of Bardin (2009). Among the aspects observed the poor working conditions were found, the lack of knowledge and use of personal protective equipment the imminent risk of accidents and illnesses, lack of concern for health and the lack of commitment of the association with the collectors in providing decent working conditions. Although the collector recognizes the importance of its work on reducing the environmental impact caused by waste, he feels discriminated against by society and forgotten by the government. Nevertheless, the testimonies pointed to hope for a better quality of life, with more job opportunities and social value. It is therefore necessary actions in order to provide these workers decent working conditions, with social guarantees and recognition by the government and society.
