Summary:Identifying the elements which indicate the presence of active peat, such as the associations of Sphagnum ssp., Carex ssp., even pools and ponds which persist through out most part of the year, determined us to test the efficiency of the Molidvis swamp drainage system, in the Fagaras Mountains. In order to drain the swamp, in the late 1960, 3022 m of channels were excavated, with depths above 2 m and 2575 m secondary channels, with depths up to 1 m. Considering the ratio between the total length of the channels and the entire surface of the Moldvis meadow (65 ha with poorly water drainage), we have a density of approximately 85 m/ha. Still, the high value of this indicator does not confirm the efficiency of the drainage system. The purpose of our study is to test the efficiency of the Moldvis peatland drainage system, using statistical methods . The most important result is connected to accepting the hypothesis referring to the lack of correlation between the ground's morphologic parameters and the distance between the channels, and also to explaining the consequences of this fact.
