Anesthetic aspects of the very obese

The obese population is increasing worlwide and the knowledgeon morbid obesity repercussions has been significantly extended.Surgical intervention for its treatment is increasingly being performedand because of this new situation it has become important to clearlyknow the risk factors to which these patients are submitted. Morbidobesity is a systemic disease affecting different organs and systems,mainly the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, including alsothe upper respiratory airways becoming as it is quite importantto the anesthesiologist. The farmacology of drugs is also envolvedand will be focused particularly in this paper. We will provide majorinformation on the alterations in different organs and systems thatlead to risk factors and their possible influence on anesthesia,allowing the anesthesiologist to plan a more safe and specifictype of anesthesia.
