Summary:An outbreak of organophosphorus and pyrethroid insecticidepoisoning in cows in the city of Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, isdescribed. Eleven from 25 animals died. The main manifestationsincluded diarrhea, sometimes bloody, apathy, anorexia, sialorrhea,muscular trembles, incoordenation and dyspnea. At post-mortemexaminations, lung edema, sub pleural emphysema and hemorrhagesdisturbances of varied forms and intensity in several organswere observed. There were no significant microscopic changes inany animal. Analyses for organophosphorus and pyrethroid insecticidederivates from rumen, reticulum, omasum and abomasumcontents were negative. Samples of livers and kidneys resultedpositive for dichlorvos and cypermethrin.
