The scholanovista Faria de Vasconcelos and the Education of abnormal children: (psycho) pedagogical action in the Institute of Mental and Pedagogical Reeducation (1929-31)

We approached the Portuguese scholanoview, Faria de Vasconcelos (1880-1939), which was an indispensable pedagogical figure of the Nova school movement, in the context of its contributions to abnormal children. The historic arch travels through the first decades of the century. XX, period where there was only for abnormal children the medical-Pedagogical Institute, Colonia Agricola S. Bernardino and the Medical-pedagogical Institute ' flower Shops of the street '. We are guided by an analytical and hermeneutical argument, under a historical-descriptive documentary methodology, whose theoretical-conceptual corpus is based on the primary sources of this pedagogue and the ' Complete works ', gathered and analyzed by Ferreira Marques; Spoils of archives and monograph of the Institute of Mental and Pedagogical reeducation; and secondary sources in various libraries, journals and academic dissertations. We centralize in the actions, ideas and experiences of Faria de Vasconcelos in new education and special education. The objectives are: to analyze the diffusion and influences of the new education movement in the Portuguese context of the time; Analyze the ideas about the education of ' abnormal ' children (delayed/delayed) in this scholarly view and the impact of the proposed law of J. Camoesas (1923), as well as its action taken at the Institute of Mental and Pedagogical reeducation (1929-31). The education of the children said ' abnormal ' were psych pedagogically one of the central themes of Faria de Vasconcelos who intended an integral education (inclusive). His psych pedagogical contributions, such as scholanview and, in particular, to the education of the ' abnormal ' children were important, especially the creation of the Institute and, therefore, constitutes one of the greatest figures in the history of education in Portugal, of great European prestige and Latin America.
