Summary: | The subject of research of this article is the polysemantic word organization in the mental lexicon. The article focuses on polysemous word semantics clustering. The purpose of the study is to present the connection between studying of the semantic network and the development of imaginative thinking that contributes to the improvement of language skills. Working with lexemes, we used the component analysis, cluster method of semantic knowledge organization, graph-semantic modeling of word semantics for visualization of epidigmatic connections, as well as the explanatory and illustrative methods that were used for acquisition and consolidation of the emerging knowledge to develop imaginative thinking.
The study results are as follows: the study and analysis of ways of grouping features and semantic links of polysemant meanings leads to understanding of the principles of their formation, which contributes to the development of language ability; when working with the subjects, it was shown that working with graph-semantic models allows us to structure semantic knowledge and develops the potential for further use, interpretation and prediction of figurative meanings; the growth of the semantic network was experimentally shown by analyzing the semantic structure. Thus, a meaning is a set of groups of features that are related to each other based on a common component. The flexible nature of the meaning not only contributes to successful communication, but also develops the scope of the semantic structure of a polysemous word. Lexical and semantic analysis contributes to the development of figurative thinking by forming the understanding of how new meanings arise.
The results of this study can be used in teaching university undergraduate and postgraduate students with such specialties as “Linguistics” and “Theory of the Language”. |
