MEASUREMENT AND NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF THE CUTTING TEMPERATURE IN CUTTING TOOL DURING TURNING OPERATION

In many manufacturing processes particularly during metal removing processes, it is sometimes desirable and often necessary to have information on the quantity of heat produced and therefore the increase in temperature and its distribution, heat generated at the tool-workpiece interface during machi...

In the present work, the evolution of the cutting temperature was studied using a combined experimental and numerical approaches; the thermocouple method was used to measure the cutting temperature for turning operations of the steel AISI 1060. 3D cutting model was used to simulate and predict the thermal phenomenon of the heat propagation in the cutting tool, using digital COMSOL simulation software. Based on a comparison between the results of two approaches; numerical and experimental, it was found a correspondence to go up to 96%, taking into account the maximum temperature.http://jestec.taylors.edu.my/Vol%2012%20issue%205%20May%202017/12_5_13.pdfTurning processTemperature measurementCOMSOL MultiphysicsFinite element.
