Comparative analysis of russian and foreign researches of commemoration allows to identify the key characteristics of commemorative cultures of different countries. Much attention is given to the role of the institution of school education in this process, because it presents information of the major events of the past, with their interpretation and attitude towards them in society, commemoration practices and, as a result, the formation of commemorative culture in general.
