| Summary: | In the first part of the article the style of miniatures in the three manuscripts is reconsidered, and this provides the basis to prove the Roman origin of the Milan Gregory and Vatican Job. The miniatures of the Sacra Parallela appear to be the work of a Palestinian artist who has most probably executed its vast cycle of illustrations in one of the Greek monasteries in Rome. The second part of the article contains a review of the so-called abstract and expressive stylistic tendency which dominated religious art of the Byzantine. |
