Description
Summary:The group of Rhinella crucifer is composed of five species that are distributed through the Atlantic Forest and adjacent areas. In the state of Rio de Janeiro, two of these species are known: R. ornata, which is spread over almost the entire state, with the exception of the northeastern portion, and R. crucifer, recorded only in Serra dos Órgãos. This work presents the first records of R. pombali and new records of R. crucifer and R. ornata in Rio de Janeiro. Rhinella pombali is recorded in Natividade, Itaperuna and Santa Maria Madalena, R. crucifer in Itaperuna, Santa Maria Madalena and Lagoa de Cima (Campos dos Goytacazes), and R. ornata in the Estação Ecológica de Guaxindiba (São Francisco do Itabapoana). These new records represent a significant expansion of the known geographic distribution of the species.
