Summary: | Rap is a musical and social phenomenon which has quickly developed in Senegal, inspiring the majority of young people of our time. The youth soon seized the opportunity to express themselves, their outlook on life in the way they speak/ rhyme/sing. This speech of a musical nature was forged at the crossroads of several African influences; at the same time, rap was forged in the daily practice of the street. The American, African and French influences, visible in the way the rappers choose to communicate give them the opportunity to become grounded in what they hold dearest, that is their land, and to open to the rest of the world, especially to the West.
