PARTIAL DIALLELIC ANALYSIS OF POPCORN INBRED LINES

The present work had the objective to estimate general combining ability of parent lines and specific combining ability of hybrid combinations of two groups of six S5 popcorns inbred lines, groups I and II, originated from UEM-C3 and UEM-C4 populations, intercrossed on partial diallelic design. The...

The Griffing’s diallel was applied to estimate general combining ability and specific combining ability, based on phenotypic performance of F1 hybrids for grain yield and popping. The 36 hybrids and the control (IAC-112) were evaluated in a randomized complete block design, with three replications, during 2005/2006 agricultural year, in Maringá and Cidade Gaúcha counties, located on Northwestern of Paraná State. The partial diallelic design was efficient for evaluating general combining ability of popcorn inbred lines and specific combining ability of hybrids from intercrossing among different groups of inbred lines. The inbred lines D, E’ e C’ can be used to make new base-populations. The hybrid combinations D x E’, E x A’, F x A’ e C x B’ were the most promising ones.http://rbms.cnpms.embrapa.br/index.php/ojs/article/view/236/241Zea mays L.combining abilitygrain yieldpopping expansion
