Description
Summary:The main question discussed in this paper concerns the relationship between the oracular poetry of the imperial age and the Greek late-antique Epic, with particular regard to Nonnus of Panopolis. Many parallels are listed between theological oracles – drawn from Porphyry’s Philosophia ex oraculis haurienda and the Theosophia Tubingensis – and Nonnus’ two poems. A special attention has been paid to the commentaries wich follow the oracles in the Theosophy: it is very probable that they were compiled in the same Alexandrian cultural milieu in which Nonnus operated.
