Summary:Introduction. More than once it was made an accent on the problem of authentic poetry usage at the foreign language lessons by the native and foreign teachers and scientists. As the matter of fact the target dedication of the poetry is the formation of linguo!socio!cultural competence – students get acquainted with the authors’ poetry, whose languages they are studying. Purpose. The purpose of the article is to overview different methods of writing small poetic lines as the means of forming the intercultural competence in students at the foreign language lessons. Methods. With the help of analyzing the experience of the usage of authentic poetry at the foreign language lessons there were identified the target types of communicative competence: receptive (in reading and listening) and reproductive (grammatical, phonetic, lexical), and translational competence. Results. In the methodology of foreign languages and cultures teaching there is no a standardized definition of “intercultural competence” and its components cannot be identified. Intercultural competence is based on knowledge, attitudes and skills, and it is an individual ability to make the intercultural communication. The teaching of writing the diamond poems, the clerihews, the acrostics and the cinquains is favorable to form in students the intercultural competence. Conclusion. Among the approaches for writing teaching in practice, the product approach and the process approach are mostly used. Especially the process approach is commonly used in teaching of students how to write small poetic lines at the foreign language lessons.
