In the early 1870s, Chile called an acceleration of the modernization of the structures of the country. With fiscal inputs and the restructuring of Chilean elites, known Chilean capital between 1870 and the Centenary transformation both “physical” and “mental” in their structures. This transformation is managed and desired from the power and will embody the republican-liberal discourse of elites based on a blind faith in the economic, technical and moral, their natural right to drive targeted country and nation building Chilean. Our work aims to show the historical process of transformation of Santiago that takes place between the urban project Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna and works made for the celebration of the centenary of the country’s independence.
