In the clinical setting, it may be due to white coat hypertension, masked hypertension, pseudopheochromocytoma, orthostatic hypertension, or supine hypertension. Labile hypertension can lead to increased cardiovascular risk. Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring is often used for the diagnosis.
