The Trascău Mountains are among the top units of the Apuseni Mountains in terms of extension and variety of vertical slopes, among which, the marginal and lateral slopes of some units and the vertical slopes of gorges. The touristic role of the vertical slopes is not only reduced to their scenic value, but, even more important, they constitute the primary resources for traditional and sport climbing. Thus, in the perimeter of these mountains, several climbing areas have been outlined, some of them of national importance, such as the Turzii Gorges, or the Colţii Trascăului Massif. The variety of vertical slopes determined the presence or various climbs, of different difficulty or lenght, from the school tracks to the routes of superior grades, and longer than 10 pitches. The increasing number of routes, and the climbing reunions and competitions organized in the area have supported the development of the climbing practice in the Trascău Mountains, and therefore of the touristic form based upon this sport.http://geographianapocensis.acad-cluj.ro/Revista/volume/nr_1_2011/pdf/Gabriela_Anghel.pdfvertical slopesfree climbingsport climbingTrascău Mountainstourism
