All dissertations and theses produced by nurses from research in intensive care units were included. Results: research related to nursing care and procedures stood out (46; 18.9%); workload, stress and sizing of nursing staff (28; 11.5%) and systematization of nursing care and process (20; 8.2%), both in the intensive care unit. Conclusion: The research analyzed reveals a profile in which most studies presented a descriptive-quantitative design and focused on the care and procedures performed in intensive care units.https://periodicos.ufsm.br/reufsm/article/view/34846unidade de terapia intensivaenfermagempesquisaprocedimentos clínicoscuidados críticos
