Description
Summary:The article considers the Russian common and dialectal lexis and phraseology with the meaning of deceit, motivated by features related to visual and auditory perception (cf. ослепить <to blind> ‘to deceive’, промывать глаза <to wash eyes> ‘to deceive’, гудúть <to drone> ‘to deceive’). The work determines the causes of the activity of these metaphors in the semantic field of deceit, reveals the models of metaphorical transfer from the perceptual to the deceitful sphere, and gives motivational commentary to a number of language units with an unclear inner form.
