Summary:This article analyzes, from a feminist perspective, the speech delivered by Madonna in the Billboard Women in Music ceremony in 2016. In particular, it explores the issues of empowerment, beauty standards and female sexuality in relation to the liberal notion of feminism. The main aim of this article is to describe the contradictions in the speech —which can be replicated and reproduced in society— and to define Madonna’s feminist stance.
