Description
Summary:Congestive heart failure (CHF) is currently a major public health problem worldwide. The analysis of the activity of the autonomic nervous system provides important information regarding prognosis, pathogenesis and treatment strategy of cardiovascular disorders. The objective was to verify the behavior of the autonomic nervous system in patients with CHF, functional class II and III, during sleep. 13 subjects of both sexes, with CHF functional class II and III (NYHA) participated. The participants of the research were submitted to polysomnography and nocturnal basal heart rate variability, and were divided into two groups according to the index of apnea / Hippo per hour (AHI) (<30 and> 30). The results showed a high level of sympathetic activity in these patients. We concluded that it was effective the use of analysis of heart rate variability to identify the behavior of the autonomic nervous system.
