Description
Summary:This thesis studies the thought of William Blake in relation to his view of Christianity. The ideas that Blake posits as Christian are employed to develop a comprehensive examination of the major themes present in his mature writings, and to suggest the organizational patterns inherent within these. A literary, rather than theological, approach delineates the organic relationship of Blake's Christianity to the whole of his work. Particular emphasis is afforded to Blake's interpretation of Judeo-Christian history and mythology. This study treats Blake's thought in four general areas of Christian concern: the Fall, the Law, Christ in the individual, and God's role in history.
