INTERMODULATION EFFECTS IN THE TRANSMISSION OF VOICE-ACTIVATED SCPC/FM CARRIERS THROUGH A NONLINEAR REPEATER

In an SCPC/FM satellite transmission system, a large number of carriers is simultaneously amplified by the satellite TWT. Due to the nonlinear characteristics of this tube, undesired signals, resulting from the intermodulation of the desired carrlérs, show up at the tube output. Therefore, an appropriate link dimensioning for an SCPC/FM system requires knowledge of the effects caused by such intermodulation products, when the modulating signal is recovered. The purpose of this work is to compute a signal-to-intermodulation noise ratio from the power spectral density of such noise at the demodulator output. This was done first from an RF spectral analysis, in which the fact that each carrier is transmitted only when voice is effectively present (voice activation) was taken into account. From expression for desired carrier and intermodulation product power spectral densities in RF, an expression for the intermodulation noise power spectral density in baseband was obtained. From this power spectral density, a signal-to-intermodulation noise ratio in a voice channel was obtained as a function of system parameters. RF power spectral densities were obtained from available measurements and taking into consideration that each is modulated by a speech signal with random level. 1978-07-03 info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion info:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesis http://www.maxwell.vrac.puc-rio.br/Busca_etds.php?strSecao=resultado&nrSeq=14364@1 http://www.maxwell.vrac.puc-rio.br/Busca_etds.php?strSecao=resultado&nrSeq=14364@2 por info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess PONTIFÍCIA UNIVERSIDADE CATÓLICA DO RIO DE JANEIRO PPG EM ENGENHARIA ELÉTRICA PUC-Rio BR reponame:Repositório Institucional da PUC_RIO instname:Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro instacron:PUC_RIO |
