The issue that drives the research relates to the reproduction of slavery in a region of cattle breeding colonization. Therefore, the research aims to understand how in a peripheral socio-economic place (in Vila do Pr?ncipe, cattle breeding Serid?) after the prohibition of the African slave trade, the slave relationships subsisted and structured themselves. In the sense, the research analyzed the dynamics of socio-economic slave units and their relationship with space, ownership structure and the slave family. === Esta disserta??o apresenta um estudo sobre a popula??o escrava da Vila do Pr?ncipe entre 1850 e 1888, a partir da documenta??o manuscrita dos acervos judiciais e cartoriais de Caic? e dos Relat?rios de Presidentes de Prov?ncia do Rio Grande do Norte. A problem?tica que move a pesquisa diz respeito ? reprodu??o do escravismo em uma regi?o de coloniza??o pecuar?stica. Portanto, a investiga??o pretende entender como em um espa?o s?cioecon?mico perif?rico (a Vila do Pr?ncipe no Serid? agropecuar?stico), ap?s a proibi??o do tr?fico africano de escravos, se sustentaram e se estruturaram as rela??es escravistas. Neste sentido, a pesquisa analisou a din?mica s?cioecon?mica das unidades escravistas e sua rela??o com o espa?o, estrutura de posse e a fam?lia escrava.
